Dance Goodies..otherwise known as "what are you up to?"
So that's the dancing...what else is up?
Ok....back to work for me. Just thought I would actually get the long promised update up here.
Dance Goodies..otherwise known as "what are you up to?"
Crazy busy is the short answer ;)
April
4/28 Fan Fusion Workshop - This was fantastic. I had a great time playing with the fans and Bastet's teaching style is a lot of fun. There wasn't a lot that I plan to incorporate directly into my dancing, but it was fun to try out a new prop and get some satisfaction out of snapping fans open and closed . The show was awesome...I had such a good time watching everyone and dancing my piece. If you are interested, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRWh7hi2F vU
I *adore* visiting with and hanging out with my Greenville ladies and gents - I have to make sure I get down there more often. They always brighten my day!
May
5/1 Jerusalem Garden - Fun, fun, fun! Mizilca and Jerusalem Garden sponsor a monthly dance showcase for local students and pros to come out and have a good time with live music. I love it and it was a special treat this time b/c we got to hang out with Daveed (www.drumfest.com) and dance for his awesome drumming. For those of you on my youtube friend list, you can see a really dark and fuzzy video of some of the evening here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI5SeaTjA L0
5/17 Fabiana’s Spring Showcase - I wrote up some stuff about this one here: http://mahsati-janan.livejournal.com/200 7/05/18/ Fabiana always puts on great events and I love dancing at the JCC.
5/19-20 East Coast Classic - Wow...where to even begin....It was wonderful to see everyone and get a chance to watch all of the beautiful dancers. I just received my scores and commentary back and, i have to say, I am thrilled with them. I didn't win, obviously, but the feedback was awesome. The only real concern from any of the judges was from one lady who felt I could have pulled in more on my mayas - and I agree with her. Unfortunately for my mayas, I was less than a week out of (ahem) female bits surgery and a full pull-through on the mayas was totally out of the question at that moment. (Heck - I was officially on light duty 'don't you dare dance' at the time, so that fact that I received such great remarks and high scores overall really means a lot to me). I don't know if I will do it again - I am really just not competitive by nature and I feel like I may be taking up a spot that someone who is more into competitions would better enjoy. I'll have to think on it. Just having the feedback from all 4 judges was worth the pain and nervousness :)
June
6/5 Teaching Class (Tuesdays) - I taught my first class at Namaste Yoga last Tuesday and really enjoyed the vibe of the place. Hopefully the students enjoy it as well as I do. I know that technique can seem tedious sometimes, but it is definitely worth it because it pays off later. i am really looking forward to the next class tomorrow.
Substituting (Wednesday 6/13) - Diana Shahein is out of town teaching workshops and visiting up in New York, so I am covering for her classes this week as well. It should be a lot of fun - she has a great group of students!
Upcoming:
6/16-6/16 This weekend Morocco!
6/16 Dancing in show Saturday
6/30 halfa in Morganton

Spring is awesomely fantastic - summer is also shaping up to be gorgeous. Jeff and I celebrated our 1st anniversary as a married couple and 2nd anniversary together on May 7, 2007. These have been the happiest two years of my life thus far and i am looking forward to many more.
Gaming: Yep - MMORPGs FTW. If you like the Lord of the Rings and MMOs, definitely try out www.lotro.com. I am having a great time with it. If you decide to play and find yourself on Landroval server, feel free to look up Fiorwyn Anwynd, Lore-Master of Rohan, and Wardyn Anwynd, Guardian of Dale. Truly - if you like stories and quest-driven gaming, this is a great place to spend some time.
Farming: Yep - you read that right. Incredibly small scale, but since we finally have a spot of our own we have planted some peppers, herbs, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and tomatoes....just enough to get us started on a little bit of food stuff for ourselves. Of course, not everything can be practical, ;), so I also have some beautiful flowers out there.
Visiting with friendly folks: Robert was in Knoxville this weekend for a work thing, so we wandered over that way and all went to the Lost Sea http://www.thelostsea.com/ and took us a hike around a huge cave with a lake in the bottom and wander the nature trail on the property as well. This was my first time in an honest-to-goodness cave and I was impressed. It was *huge* and when the guide turned out the electric lights scattered around, it was the deepest darkness I have ever not-seen. While probably not for the extremely claustrophobic or thrill-seekers, in terms of fun wandering with friends it was great! Keri is planning on coming by for a visit in about a week, so that will be lots of fun too.
